Harvested at our state-of-the-art R&D vertical farming facility at the University of Nottingham’s Sutton Bonington campus in the week of 18 August 2025, the fibre travelled a lightning-fast journey through the textile supply chain — from plant to catwalk in just over four weeks. This unprecedented speed showcases Gooddrop’s mission to create a traceable, truly sustainable, and hyper-local cotton system.
The fibre’s journey:
Harvested: Week of 18 August – Gooddrop, total-control growing environment, Sutton Bonington (UK)
Ginned by hand: Following week – Gooddrop offices, Hull (UK)
Spun: Following week – Rieter AG, Winterthur (Switzerland)
Woven: Following week – Getzner Textil, Bludenz (Austria)
Finished & sewn: Week of 15 September – TAMMAM atelier, London (UK)
Catwalk debut: 21 September – London, Camden High Street
The resulting fabric remains raw, unbleached, and fully compostable — a symbolic prototype for the closed-loop textile economies Gooddrop is building for the future.
Simon Wardle, CEO and co-founder of Gooddrop Ltd, said:
“This is a turning point for cotton. For centuries, the UK has imported fibre at vast environmental and social cost. With these three years of development culminating in this moment, we’ve proven it can be grown here, sustainably. We’re showing what’s possible when you reimagine cotton supply chains for the 21st century.”
To spotlight this breakthrough, Gooddrop partnered with sustainable couture label TAMMAM, which transformed the fabric into a one-of-a-kind garment. Presented on the runway in London today, the piece provides a powerful platform to showcase how Gooddrop’s innovation can reshape the fashion supply chain.
Lucy Tammam, founder of TAMMAM, added:
“Fashion has the power to tell stories of change. By bringing Gooddrop’s cotton to the runway so quickly, we’re proving beauty and sustainability can exist hand in hand — and inspiring a future where couture and conscience align.”
The unveiling marks a milestone in the rebirth of British textiles — the first UK-grown cotton garment, made possible by vertical farming and a vision for regenerative fashion.
